
Oaks have an important role in Bulgarian folklore, mythology, literature, visual arts, as well as in our society. The oak tree is the tree of the Slavic god Perun and its leaves are depicted on the coat of arms of the Republic of Bulgaria. It was called the “World tree” by our ancestors and was perceived as a connection between the worlds. The representatives of the Oak genus are of primary importance for the appearance of our forests up to 800 m above sea level. The oak trees reach an impressive height of 40-50 m an average age of over 500 years.
